As the last, surprisingly warm days of September fade, and the pages of the calendar are slowly turned to October, the stark realisation that there are only three months left before 2017 draws to a close suddenly hit me. It prompted me regroup, re-evaluate and, ultimately, decide which 18 goals I wanted to accomplish before 2018 rolls around.
The “18 Before 2018” goal-setting challenge was created by Lisa Jacobs and, as the name suggests, the idea is to select 18 goals you want to complete before 2018. Most of the goals I’ve listed below stem from my New Year’s Resolutions, with some requiring more effort to complete than others. All of them have in common, however, that I would love to get them done before the clock strikes twelve on New Year’s Eve, and today, I’m sharing them with you.
/ Go on biweekly dates with my husband. These have been a little more sporadic than I would want, so I’ve put reminders in my planner to schedule them every week until the end of the year.
/ Have my family over for dinner once a month. Although we’ve had my family over for dinner before, I want to pick a date and have it be a standing invitation of sorts, open to anyone who wishes to come over. I’ve put monthly reminders in my planner and all there’s left to do is to pick the dates.
/ Finish writing my thesis. It’s been a draining, losing battle trying to get my thesis written this year, with rejections and red tape barring the way to graduation. Despite this, I hope to have it completely rewritten, handed in, and approved before December 31st.
/ Get my drivers licence. Once I’ve handed in my thesis and graduated, I’ll have money available to start my driving lessons! Driving is such a large part of your life, and I’m super keen to get started.
/ Get a full-time job. Although I’ve been working temporary jobs, I haven’t been able to commit to a full-time one without a degree. Once I know the date on which I’m graduating, I’ll be able to start sending out applying.
/ Complete Baby Step #2. Last year, I read Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover, and ever since, I’ve been working on completing the seven baby steps (find them here). I’m currently knee-deep into Baby Step #2, and I hope to complete it before the end of the year rolls around.
/ Complete a round of BBG. BBG stands for The Bikini Body Guide, a 12-week, at-home training programme created by personal trainer Kayla Itsines. I’ve bought all the supplies, I’ve got all the routines written down, I just need to actually get started with the workouts.
/ Purchase new curtains. One of the only big purchases left to make this year for our home is curtains for the upstairs bedrooms. We’ve been waiting for them to go on sale, and I hope to have them ordered, delivered, and installed before the end of the year.
/ Paint the staircase and the banisters. The carpet’s been stripped, the wood has been sanded, a base coat has been applied, so now all there’s left to do to complete the staircase going up to our second floor is to paint it. Additionally, we need to sand, paint, and install the pine-wood banisters that came with it.
/ Purchase wardrobe. After much humming and hawing, we’ve finally got our massive, master bedroom wardrobe picked out. All there’s left to do is order it online, have it delivered, and install it.
/ Go through all of my books. Although I’m a firm believer in the fact that one can never have too many books, I sadly don’t have an endless amount of room to store them. One of my goals this year was to read all of the ones I hadn’t gotten to yet, for whatever reason, and donate those I didn’t actually like. I’ve got twenty left to read before the end of the year.
/ YouTube. I’ve got a small YouTube channel that I love creating content for, but it unfortunately fell by the wayside. Starting next week, my goal is to post a video every week until the rest of the year. I’ve still got some lists to make and some organising to do to bring this about, but I’m excited to try!
/ Get on schedule, then get ahead. This goal works in tandem with the previous one. I want to not only create a blogging schedule for myself, but also a YouTube schedule, so that I can not only post content on a regular basis, but also stop feeling like I’m running rings round myself. I haven’t quite figured out how I’m going to do this yet, so there’s still a bit of work to do.
/ Clear my phone gallery. Throughout the year, I somehow managed to accumulate a startling amount of photos on my mobile phone, and I want to go through all of them and decide which can stay, and which can go.
/ Clean out my computer folders. Similar to the goal above, I want to go through all the folders on my computer, and those on my external hard-drive, and get rid of anything I don’t need anymore.
/ Get doorbell fixed. Our doorbell unfortunately stopped working, resulting in a lot of startling knocks on our front door, so I would like to get it fixed before the new year rolls around.
/ Book a dentist appointment. I couldn’t make it to my last check-up, so I’ve got to phone them and make a new appointment.
/ Sort out boxes. In the study, there are three boxes that somehow managed to sneak into the house without being unpacked, so I’ve got to go through those and figure out what needs to be stored and what can be donated.
So there we go, my 18 before 2018. Just before the year ends, I’ll share an update, so you can see how I’ve fared! Are there any goals you hope to accomplish before 2018?
