January was a funny month for me. A few days after the post I wrote about my January goals went live, just when I was on the mend from the cold I had gotten after Christmas, I awoke to find another virus had managed to nestle itself in my body, and this one proved to be even trickier to shake than the last one. Thankfully, after a lot of chicken soup, reluctant midday naps (I don’t do well with sleeping in the middle of the day), and five boxes of tissues, that cold has also left the building and normality, for the time being at least, has returned.
All this, of course, threw a bit of a wrench in the goals department, but that’s not to say there wasn’t any progress. Here’s how I did on my six January goals:
✓ Update my resume. Done! I finished updating my resume the day the goals post went live, and I also found a new job. It’s early days yet and we’re still negotiating my contract, but I’ve already worked a handful of days and I’m really liking it so far.
✓ Finalise and submit work hours. Done! This was one of the tasks I tackled when I was recovering and it was amazingly easy to do with the help of my old work planner. Thankfully, my previous job was equally prompt with the payment.
✓ Receipts. Done. Yikes, but was this a nightmare and a half to get through. As a result, though, I’ve been very good about updating the Excel sheet, and once I finish putting in the receipts from yesterday’s grocery shopping trip, I’m current.
X Plan out three blog posts. Not done. I did finish two posts and published them, but the third post is still lurking about in my drafts.
✓ Savings account. Done! I actually snuck this task in on the last day of January, and I’m so happy I did.
X Study. Not done. Aside from one guilty glance at the textbook, it didn’t happen.
February is, of course, quite short, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to tackle it head first! Here are my five goals for the month:
Plan out three blog posts. I want to carry over this goal from January and write and publish three blog posts, of which this goals post is one (so I’m off to a good start!)
Study. It didn’t happen last month, but I should be able to start studying for my theory test this month. I want to get through 200 pages (which is almost the entire book) and make flashcards for all of the road and traffic signs.
Read two books. Last year, I set myself a challenge to read 20 books, and I hit that goal by the end of the year. I have upped the ante to 25 books this year, and to this end, want to finish at least two books this month. I’m a quick reader and I’ve already started on a couple, so I should be able to complete this goal within the next twenty-one days. If you’d like to know which books I’m reading, you can follow along on my Goodreads account here.
Clean out bedroom bookcase. There’s a big bookcase in our bedroom which serves as kind of a catch-all, and plays home to a whole variety of things, like spare books, notepads, financial records and boxes of notes. They’re all my things, and in order for us to have the space to install an actual closet, it needs to be sorted out and completely empty. It’s a bigger project, but nothing a good weekend afternoon of tidying can’t fix!
Complete two house projects. One thing I want to make progress on is some things around the house. We’ve completed all of the big renovations we budgeted for, but there are some smaller projects I still want to tackle. For this month, I picked two. The first is finding and purchasing a dryer and the second is to finish installing the closets in our bedroom.
