At the moment I’m writing this, it’s far too late in the evening, and I’m listening to the very steady hum of my cooker hood, which is doing its very best to get the hot and slightly burnt smell out of the kitchen. I’ve got a self-cleaning oven, you see, and it’s just finished running through a cycle at a temperature I didn’t even know it had in an attempt to clean itself. I’ll keep you posted on how well it works – I’m trying not to be too enthusiastic before I know the results!
/ Taylor Swift – Delicate. While I initially disliked this song when I first heard it, it has really, really grown on me in the last few days. It’s a very un-Taylorish song, made up of a soft, EDM-like melody, with lyrics that whisper about the delicate beginnings of a new relationship. The music video is lighthearted and a little silly, but I would definitely give it a listen, if you haven’t heard it already!
/ Bear. A simple yet stunning writing app, Bear is currently only available for platforms that run on iOS, which I believe to be its only drawback. Bear is easy to use and quite sleek, and I’ve actually come to prefer it over the built-in Apple Notes app in my iPhone.
/ Erica Lee on YouTube. I recently discovered that there’s a whole genre of YouTube videos I never knew about: clean with me videos. I have no idea why I’d never heard of these before. Not surprisingly, they’re exactly what it says on the tin: people showing how they clean their homes, step-by-step. Currently, Erica’s channel is my favourite, because her videos are beautifully filmed and she always looks well-put together. If you’re looking for some cleaning motivation, I would recommend her channel!
/ Morning Pages. This morning practice, from Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way, is aimed at clearing your mind, allowing your creativity to flow freely throughout the day. The idea is that you take a notebook and a pen, and fill three pages with stream-of-consciousness writing, which allows you to get rid of all of those niggly, I-should-really-be-doing-this-thoughts that float around in the back of your mind. I used to dutifully write them as part of my morning routine, but fell out of the habit at the beginning of the year. I’ve been making a conscious effort to do them again, however, and it’s almost shocking how much of a difference they make to my day!
