Getting Unstuck, or How To Organise Your Life

What with everything going on in the world right now, including some quite unintentional but nonetheless heavily intense sleep deprivation on my part, life hasn’t felt very organised lately. In fact, I’ve been feeling rough around the edges and, truthfully, a little stuck.

Because life has been so uncertain and unpredictable, I’ve found it to be a bit challenging to set goals. Therefore, in an effort to get unstuck, and actually get my life organised the way I want, I have realised that I need to make some choices, narrow my focus, and just start.

I’ve been mulling things over these last few days, and decided that the areas I want to achieve goals in can be divided into several categories pertaining to my life and home. My idea is to set one goal in each category and, to hold myself accountable, share my progress in a follow up blog post next Tuesday. This gives me exactly one week to achieve four goals; no other goals, no excuses, I’m going to just do it.

1. Home

There’s a certain, attainable state of tidy and clean that I’d like my home to be, which I refer to as its baseline. This week, I’m going to work on the following goal in order to get it back to that state:

  • Cleaning out the fridge
I normally do this every Tuesday, in preparation for the weekly shop, but it hasn’t happened lately. Nothing in the fridge is spoilt, but I’d just like to give all of the shelves a clean and get clear on what needs to be used up before I make this week’s meal plan.

2. Life

There are a lot of projects in my life, both big and small, that I’d like to get started on. This week, I’m going to work on the following goal:

  • Finish wedding anniversary gift
Our seventh wedding anniversary is swiftly approaching, and I’ve been slowly working on a small gift for my husband to celebrate it. I still need to finish a small number of things, and I’d like to get them all done before next Tuesday, as our anniversary is on the 15th.

3. Habits

One of the first things to fall to the wayside when you’re only focused on getting through the day, is good habits. This week, I want to slowly begin to introduce them back into my life, starting with the following habit:

  • Drinking at least 1 litre of water every day
I’m terrible about remembering to drink enough water. I just forget, and it’s honestly the worst habit. This week, I want to drink at least 1 litre every day, which is about four glasses of water, and which should be more than doable.

4. A New Project

As I’ve mentioned on Instagram, I’ve recently started a new job. It’s a job with flexible hours and something I’m able to do mostly from home. This week, in relation to that, I want to focus on the following goal:

  • Figuring out a system to track my work hours
For my old job, I used a simple Excel sheet to keep track of my work hours. It would do the calculations for me, and I’m sure it’s still somewhere to be found in the files I backed up from my old laptop. I want to dig into my backed-up files, find that sheet to see if it’s still useful, tweak it if it’s not, and then fill in the hours I’ve been working so far.

How have you been impacted by the state of the world? Have you been feeling stuck? Are there any goals you’ve been wanting to achieve in the four areas I’ve mentioned? If so, I’d love it if you want to do the challenge with me! Let me know in the comments below!
